About the project

Design by Doreen Etes

Out On A Limb is a visual art and literature project developed by Elaine Speight in collaboration with writer Jenn Ashworth and residents of Rock Ferry, Tranmere and Birkenhead on the Wirral.

During April, May and June 2010, the project participants worked together to produce new fictional stories based in the Wirral.  Each story was developed on an individual blog, which acted as a type of sketchbook or notebook and includes descriptions of the weekly workshops, creative writing, drawings, photography and video.

The stories have been mapped and drawn together on a project website hosted at www.outonalimbwirral.net, where you can also add your own Wirral tale.  This blog documents the process involved in developing the project.  Visit the meet the writers section to find out more about the participants, the project diary section to read Jenn and Elaine’s updates on the project, and behind the scenes for practical information from the weekly workshop sessions.

Out On A Limb has been developed for Art for Places, a public art initiative run by Liverpool Biennial and New Heartlands.  Header image by Keith Szlamp.

this reads very well. If I was reading this blog for the first time I would feel as though I was entering a world of caring, craetive people all looking after each other on a virtual level.

    • Thanks Barbara,

I think it’s difficult keeping in touch in a purely virtual way and keeping the momentum up but I’m so impressed with everyone’s blogs. I’m really looking forward to the launch and seeing everyone again!

  2. like Barbara i think i would look into this further and once you are hooked you find yourself automatically plugging in to find out what everyone is up although real life friends are very important and would not be in a world that was just virtual but does has its advantages such as can keep in touch at a time to suit you and when you have had enough just unpug so bye (DON<T take offense)

    • feeling a bit stressed not really a part of it everyone else had help from elaine i have been under so much pressure with my family anyway hope the story goes well

Thank you for your comment – it’s great to hear from a writer (and illustrator) from Birkenhead. I look forward to meeting you on 29th, as I’m sure the rest of the group do as well.

  4. Hi Elaine
Have been fiddling around with an idea for Out on a Limb logo. Probably far too late anyway, but for what it`s worth I`ve posted it on my blog.
    Hope everything`s going to plan.
